Insomnia

Has anyone seen the original version of Insomnia? The movie is just awesom. Stellan plays the main-character, Jonas Engström, an “evil” policemen. Stellan is doing his job frigthently good. The character is darker than Terry Glass.

Hollywood has made a remake of this great movie a few years ago. I think, this was unnecessary. The original movie is far better than the remake, but very dark and violent.

I still have yet to see the Original Insomnia, I will probably have to order it from my DVD Store. I so want to see it, I thought the remake was great, but I'm saying this because I Still haven't seen the original. I'm sure the original is better though

I think the main difference between the two version is the main character. In the original movie the policeman is a very selfish guy who only cares about himself and no one else.

He isn't someone who might like. In the remake the policeman is a nice guy, who always tries his best. Someone the viewer can identify with.

And the ending is different. The original movie hasn't such a hollywood-ending.

The movie is rather hard, for example the dog isn't that until he meets Stellan.

Yea i have to agree that the Remake was having a Hollywood Ending. I'll watch the Original soon.

i want to see the original version of Insomnia, too.

yeah, the original version is hard to get. i had the luck that it was broadcasted on television, otherwise i would'nt have seen the movie.

The Movie "Insomnia" was really good. I was so happy, when I bought it from an internet store in Great Britain, because in Germany you couldn´t get it. It sometimes was shown on television, but in Germany are the films always translated. That´s a point that makes me sad and crazy. So I look in the whole internet, where I can get movies in the original language. I sometimes don´t care if I don´t get german or english subtitles. The most important thing for me is to hear the original voices of the actors. Of course Stellan, but also the other people. I think, it´s much better for getting into the movie, when you hear the original language. However, that´s my opinion, maybe you think different. That´s ok. Have a nice time...

That is not interesting for everybody, but I saw, that this movie will be shown on german television.

I know it is not ideal to watch the movie in German but it´s better than not having seen it at all. I´m looking forward to watching it.

When you have seen it, you can think of buying the DVD. That´s also great.

I´ll be in London in the middle of October so I could try to get the DVD there.

I agree that it is nice to buy the DVD after you´ve seen a movie in German and then you can watch it in English which is always completely different.

To correct you - this movie is in norwegian and swedish. Only english subtitles. I got the DVD an www.amazon.co.uk

I watched the movie when it was on TV on Friday. However, I fell asleep for a few minutes as I was so tired but at least I saw the beginning and the end. Luckily, a friend recorded the movie for me and she is going to give it to me on Saturday.

I liked very much what I saw from the movie and I can´t wait to watch the complete film.

That´s bad. You can´t just sleep when Stellan is on the screen.

It depends if I´m flying to London or not but if I do as I planned I´m going to look for the original version.
No, you are not crazy to have the movies in Swedish because your Swedish is quite good and I´m glad that you help me to learn a bit of Swedish.

As I won´t go away on holiday for long I plan to buy a few films at amazon and "Insomnia" is one of them because my friend has already forgotten 3 times to give it to me and I´m really getting a bit annoyed about her. She always says she thought about it but forgot about it at the last minute.
I know original versions are usually the best but for the beginning watching the movie in German was better than nothing.

As for my Swedish, I kept on learning a bit of grammar but I´m sure I´m not making much progress. Thanks for your help (It´s much appreciated!) and, of course, it is much more fun to learn together.
I find it a bit embarassing to send you sentences in Swedish because I know I make a lot of mistakes. :roll:and you might go crazy correcting them all.

I´m not going crazy. It´s funny and I won´t be angry at you for making some few mistakes. But I will tell you, that you don´t make the (little) mistakes again. Just for your best.

i'd like to find Insominia, funny I thought it was an English speaking movie, goes to show what I know, well I'll probably get the original and drive my husband nuts with the subtitles

You can be happy that the DVD has english subtitles. I was driving my mother crazy with some movies in English with swedish subtitles. On some scenes she wasn´t understanding the english speaking people and was crazy about the swedish subtitles. It was for example the movie "Walk the Line".
If you to make your husband crazy, turn the subtitles off. Then you will have a funny evening...
