Dogville Empty
PostSubject: Dogville   Dogville EmptyThu 15 Jun - 11:22

A few days ago, I watched a strange movie called Dogville. Although a lot of hollywood stars like nicole kidman or james caan (and Stellan) played in this movie, the whole thing was different than everything i've seen before.

I would like to know, if anyone has seen this movie as well and what other people thing about this very strange film.

Without a doubt, this was the strangest film with Stellan, if ever seen. I don't think, that I understood the whole thing.

I thought this was a very thought provoking 'art' style film with the most unusual set I have ever seen, filmed like a play. The film examines some interesting issues particularly concerning the acceptance of outsiders, exploitation and trust. The way the characters change as the film progresses and show their truly ugly personalities was certainly disturbing. It is directed by Lars Von Trier who is known for his unorthodox direction and the lack of 'proper' sets and props in Dogville allows the viewer to engross themselves in the acting and the stroy-line. It's one of those films that you'll either love or hate but I sat for a long time afterwards thinking about what happened. A diverse piece of work as far away from watered-down Hollywood blockbusters as possible. A must-see.

Dogville! Wow! F***ed up twisted. I won’t say that I enjoyed watching the film, but I’ll say that I’m glad I did. Kind of like getting a tooth pulled – or watching a Brechtian play – whichever you can relate to. Yes, the minimalism helped the audience remain focused on the story and emotionally uninvolved. Emotional detachment helps to keep thoughts clear on the issues that arise, and the impact stays with you longer.

By the way, is it appropriate to curse on this forum? If appropriate, I prefer to express myself without the use of asterisks. What a Face
